occasion of the recent sad event in Rhodope, I share these lyrics dedicated to
the memory of women who are lost to the blind violence of spousal murderers,

Upon Rodopi's village
falls a heavy, chilling shade,Where yet another mother
lies beneath a cruel blade,Ten women lost to hatred,
ten lives of sorrow deep,While helpless little
children are left behind to weep. The husband turned a knife
upon the faithful heartAnd tore the quiet
household so viciously apart,Three orphans stand in
silence under a darkened sky,With nowhere left to turn
now, and none to soothe their cry. How long must fear and
darkness dictate our bitter days?How long will raging
shadows consume our gentle ways?The law looks on in
slumber, too slow to save or shield,While the silent victim
consumes the tragic field. Oh, weep, you winds of
sorrow, and carry far the pain,Until no other mother is
hunted down in vain,May memory awake us, to
change the path we tread,And guard the living
spirit of every soul that's fled.
